I've known him only for three years, which was too short. He was a great leader and will be truly missed.

I had the good fortune of knowing Simon as a graduate student on CREAM. Every time I saw one of those Intel commercials ("Our rock stars aren't like your rock stars") I thought of Simon. He was rock star to me, not only because of his brilliance, but also because of his humor, wit, and kind heart. I am lucky to have known him and sorry that the world has been robbed of a great man too soon. His family and friends will be in my prayers.

Oh this is terrible news! Simon was synonymous with the life and drive of the field. For those of us who were fortunate enough to know and work with him, we will miss his wisdom, intelligence and good-hearted sensibility.
My condolences to his family - we lost a good one today. Instead of flying a flag at half-mast, I propose that cosmic rays travel at half the speed of light today.

Simon was a dear friend, a wonderful colleague, and an amazing scientist. I'll miss so many things about him, but especially his optimism, his wacky sense of humor, and his refusal to worry about what other people thought of him - especially the bean counters and stuffed shirts! His love of life and his unflagging pursuit of great science remains imbued within VERITAS and in all of the many people that he inspired.
